The aim in view is still to present a history of the development of culture in the times of Jesus and the writers of the New Testa ment, so far as this development had a direct influence upon the rise of Christianity; and then to give the history of this rise itself, so far as it can be treated as an Objective history, and not as a subjective religious process.
