And is the bodies were in sact removed, these might be thus possessed os a secondary certain insormation os the sact, and os the place os their graves in our burying-yard.--And yet death might have overtaken them besore the time us sasety sor public promulgation. In which case the next generations must be lest to sable and the vague and unevidenced traditions os the present day. Thus I have gone through the state os insormation to 1731, or the death os Mr. Russel os Bransord. 3. The third period maybe that srom 1731 to the present day. In the beginning os this period and down to 1748, the death os Samuel Bishop, Esq. aged 82, son os the Governor, there were still means os continuing certain and authoritative insormation srom them who were sirst concerned. But whether the thing grew into desuetude, or whether they communicated it to persons os unawaked curiosity or heedless inattention, or from whatever cause, the thing is so gone srom us, that srom a very diligent inquiry at Hadley and NewHaven, I have not sound a lingle person that can say, that whatever knowledge they now have, they received it srom any os thofe ancient persons now dead, whom I know, or have reason to think, to have been posslessed os the jecondary certain insormation. I have reason to think indeed that such persons os a third descent in derivative evidence have been to be sound here till 1775. And I believe about that time the line os authoritative insormation ceased. None now living can say that they were told by Mr. Samuel Bishop, son of the Governor, or by any other person possessed os certain derivative insormation where Goffe died, or whether the bodies os Whalley and Gosse were removed, or where sinally dcT posited, either at Hadley or New-Haven. As to these...
