I must begin the review by saying that I want a macaw named Mr. Darcy who sings Monty Python songs.
I held off on reading this book for a while because I knew that I had to be in a sentimental mood to read it. These moods normally do not happen very often with me. Luckily, over the weekend I was.
I loved the way A Gentle Rain was structured. Both Ben and Kara were given their individual point of view. I really enjoyed that because I never felt that the story was at all biased with one character?s perceptions of events. I think it gave the book a balanced feel and really gave me an understanding of each of the characters.
I liked both Ben and Kara. I enjoyed both of their stories and thought they had great chemistry on the page. I was rooting for them the whole way through. I also loved the supporting cast of characters. Lily and Mac were such a sweet couple. I wanted to pull them out of the book and hug them. Joey was also such a great character.
The only issue I had with the book was that everyone was either too good or too evil. No one that was good had any flaws and no one that was bad had any goodness in them. I found this most apparent in Kara. Kara was so good and perfect almost to the point that it became annoying. I wanted to find one flaw with this woman apart from her momentary apprehension when she learned that her birth parents were mentally handicapped. This took a little away from my ability to engage myself in the story.
Overall, this is a good book. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a heartwarming story with interesting characters and unique locations.

Moving book.
Coming from south Florida, I was impressed with the way the author depicted the characters and places. It was very true to the 'cracker' way of life and she wrote with a warmness that moved me deeply.
