Seller's Description:
Fair. Boston: B. B. Russell, 1874. Published 1874. Worn copy of this collection of brief town histories, some illustrated with small engravings, with a large folding map in color at the front. What makes this particular copy a bit more interesting is the bookplate on the front pastedown, which indicates that the book was a gift to the Congregational Church and Society of Prescott, Massachusetts, for use of its ministers. Prescott is a town that no longer exists anywhere but under the waters of the Quabbin Reservoir in Western Massachusetts. Brown cloth lettered in gilt, 576 pages. Covers worn and rubbed, large section of spine covering absent, including about half the lettering, good hinges, sound text block, age-toned pages with some scattered foxing, map generally good with many extraneous creases and a four inch closed tear from the lower corner in, affecting the legend, not the map itself. A rough copy with interesting provenance. Hard Cover. Fair. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall.
