Of the several books about this diabolical case out of Utah, this reads the best and describes the morphing of a legitimate book dealer into a master forger. He cleverly dupes the Mormon Church hierarchy, and is setting them up again, when the scheme begins to unravel. Two people are murdered, the killer stages a smokescreen to take scrutiny away from him, but the authorities are becoming wise. The forgeries, reputedly over 400, were sold to unsuspecting collectors; even the National Archives was almost added to his list as he had created a document of great historical signficance to our country. Despite a genius IQ, he left an elementary paper trail. The book tastefully reveals the religious bias in trying to achieve an unbiased investigation. Would he walk? Would he be charged with a litany of crimes? An expert witness skilled in a new type of document analysis provides the denouement to this hard-to-put-down account. Love books and documents, and true crime? This one is for you; it has a permanant spot on my bookshelf.
