This volume provides prayers for all the mornings and evenings of the month. The prayers are intended as aids to the morning's or evening's devotions, but the left-hand pages of the book are blank, so that each individual can add further petitions or intercessions for him or herself. It serves as a basis for private worship in a great variety of circumstances. John Baillie is the author of "A Diary of Readings".

Baillie's scope of thought, around the globe, in and out of ourselves, is wonderful as a guide to our own prayers. We have read his prayers year in, year out, and find them fresh and applicable always.
If you love the turn of phrase of an older English, get an earlier/original version. If you'd rather have a bit more contemporary language, one of the recent hard cover books.

Excellent Book
This book is very inspirational in that it causes me to consider the things I pray about. It consists of 32 morning and even prayers by John Baillie. They are not meant to be memorized or to replace real prayer or Bible reading. But, as a man of God, the author sets a good example of praying for a broad range of important things that most of us probably seldom think of. There is focus on areas like praising God's glory, confessing sin, asking for help in holy living, and a lot of attention to praying for others. If you want to learn to improve your own prayer life, study the prayers of this brother in the Lord.

A Great Help for Personal Devotions
I have used this little book for over 40 years to keep me thinking about things I might forget in my personal devotions. My own copy has been rebound, I bought this one for a friend and Alibris was the only way I could get a hard copy of the original edition. It was in fine condition and just what I wanted for this occasion. Paper backs are available new, but I needed the original.
