Blue ribbed publisher's cloth, white lettering & decoration on front cover & spine (minor bumping to foot of spine, couple corners, creasing to pastedown on inner front cover), w/ d.j. photo cover art of Istanbul and the Golden Horn (minor chipping head of spine, couple minor tears), still VG-/VG-copy, inscribed by author to his second wife, Riena Gurly Archibald in 1925. First edition, inscribed, of this memoir of travel through the Mediterranean following World War I, with stops in Rome, Athens, then onto Cairo, Karnak, and concluding with visits to Constantinople and Jerusalem. The excellent photos include images of the Hagia Sophia, Athens, Egyptian pyramids, mummies, Jaffa harbor, and the Bosporus. Archibald (1851-1926) was a noted Presbyterian Minister in New Haven, CT had sailed to Europe to examine the aftermath of the recent World War, and dedicated this account to his first wife Julia who tragically died from pneumonia upon their return in March, 1921. Scarce in dustjacket.
