Excerpt from A Critical Examination of the Peshitta Version of the Book of Ezra This dissertation is the outcome of an investigation begun during postgraduate work in Union Theological Seminary in a Seminar conducted by Professor Julius A. Bewer. After reviewing the adverse criticisms of the scholars concerning the Peshitta Text Of the Book of Ezra, and then carefully studying the Peshitta itself, I found that the value of the latter for textual criticism had been considerably under estimated and as a result almost entirely neglected. During further postgraduate study at the University of Basel, I con tinued my study of the Ezra text. Finally, during the summer semester of 1922 at the University of halle-wittenberg, I brought this work to the point where I offer my investiga tions to the public.
