If you either were born in the early 1950's, or are just looking for a christmas story whose sensibility reflected the best of those times- check out this sweet little book. Void of religion, except for the brief appearance of "the santa for rabbits and other small animals" this book focuses on the tree decorating efforts of 4 friends; a little girl, a cat, a dog, and a rabbit, all in their best clothes to dress their tree. When they are faced with no star for the top, Elizabeth heads out into the woods to look for one, asking sleepy wild animals along the way. The illustrations are simple and charming- and when you finish the book (in about 3 minutes) you'll swear you can smell balsam in the air. Or is it cookies, baking???
