The most vulnerable, along with their children, are trapped in war and violence. A Call to Action addresses the suffering inflicted upon women by a false interpretation of carefully selected religious texts and a growing tolerance of violence and warfare. Key verses are often omitted or quoted out of context by male religious leaders to exalt the status of men and exclude women. And in nations that accept or even glorify violence, this perceived inequality becomes the basis for abuse. A good book if you want a brief outline of the various problems women face around the world. He doesn't go into a lot of detail, as that would make a huge tome to read through, but he does touch on a broad range of subjects; from religion's role in oppressing women to economics and how countries and villages would benefit themselves monetarily with equal rights for women. He did have some interesting ideas on how to deal with some of these problems. I appreciate that Mr. Carter wrote a book centering on women's rights and is using his power to combat many of these issues. Pass this book along to your friends and spread the awareness. Education seems to be the best antidote to combat the harmful attitudes we, as a world, hold about half of our population.
