It should be here observed, that, since this part of the work was printed, this curious portrait was by Mr. Fenn presented to Richard Bull, esq. P. 389, add to the note at the bottom of the page: I am credibly informed, that this translation was by Mr. Townley, a Roman catholic gentleman of fortune in Lancashire, bo has been admitted by the French to understand their language as well as the natives themselves. As As a full and correct Index is of the greatest use in this work, the author has done his utmost to make it so.
