This is the only Del-Vikings release to feature the original all-Black quintet. The quality of the singing seems extraordinary, even with the threadbare (minimal guitar, drums) backup that they get here. The arrangements are simple and honest, if a little raw at times, and the songs accurately bring out the elements that made this group a hit at various Air Force singing contests. The version of "Come Go With Me" here featured composer Clarence Quick singing lead, rather than Norman Wright. Also included on 1956 Audition Tapes are "How Can I Find True Love," which later became the B-side to "Come Go With Me," and the Del-Vikings' cover of the Meadowlarks' "Heaven and Paradise," the extraordinary "The White Cliffs of Dover," and a surprisingly ornate version of "In the Still of the Night." The nine songs here were mastered uncut from the original demo tape, with no overdubbing and none of the editing that took place on the Luniverse-produced album, Come Go With the Del-Vikings. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
