Yet 1948-2001: A Ligeti Odyssey is a compilation of works that were recorded by BIS between 1994 and 2006, and it shows the diversity of his output from a career of over five decades and far beyond the cutting-edge pieces used by Kubrick. While Ligeti became famous for his avant-garde music, such as the cluster-piece, Volumina for organ (1961-1962), and the dense Ten Pieces for wind quintet (1968), not all of his music fell under the experimental rubric.
