Guitar recordings as a group are often eclectic, ranging from Renaissance repertory to flamenco to popular song and more. With À sa guitare, however, Jaroussky and guitarist Thibaut García seem to have pushed themselves to pursue the principle of eclecticism to near its limits. The challenge is perhaps greater for Jaroussky, who is a bit out of his range in Dowland (although the results can be described as cute) and in the likes of the song Septembre by the popular singer Barbara, but García, drawing on the work of several arrangers, including himself, achieves equally startling results in Schubert's Erlkönig, D. 328, outdoing Jaroussky, who doesn't quite bring out the one-man opera quality of the song.
