Unnamed. Good. An uncommon first edition copy of this fascinating historical, topographical, archaeological, and anecdotal study of Sussex by Mark Antony Lower. Mark Antony Lower was a Sussex historian renowned for founding the 'Sussex Archaeological Society'. Complete in two volumes. Volume I has been misbound, with title to spine stating 'Volume III'. Featuring bookplates of a 'Geo. G. Guy' and 'Norman G. Guy' tipped to the front pastedown of each volume. With a list of subscribers to the rear of volume II. Copiously illustrated throughout with numerous plates, many of which are folding. With a coloured folding plate to the rear of volume II. In a half crushed morocco binding with marbled paper over boards. Externally, minor shelf wear to extremities. Rubbing to spine resulting in slight loss to gilt and loss to head of spine volume I. Volume I misbound, with title to spine stating 'Volume III'. Tape repair to rear hinge of volume I. Front board detached but present, volume I. Rear hinge volume I partially split and tender, may detach with further handling. Hinges split and strained, volume II. Slight rubbing to boards. Prior owner's bookplates tipped to front pastedown of each volume. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned to extremities, with light scattered spots to the occasional page. Good.
