In addition to running the candy store located on the lower level of her inner-city tenement building, kindly Mrs. Mutterance (Katherine Helmond) is also struggling to make ends meet and raise her adopted children (Kimble Joyner and Melissa Joan Hart) despite the constant interference of her mean-spirited landlord Mr. Snyder (Sid Caesar).
