When Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns) hears that the Texas cemetery where her grandfather is buried has been vandalized, she gathers her wheelchair-bound brother Franklin (Paul A. Unfortunately, a family of homicidal slaughterhouse workers who take their job home with them have taken over the house next door. Included amongst the brood is Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen), a chainsaw-wielding human horror show who wears a face mask made out of human skin. Sally's friends are rapidly exterminated one-by-one by the next-door neighbors, leaving only Sally left to fight off Leatherface and his clan. Paul Brenner, Rovi

As a lifelong horror fan, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of many scary movies my family rented on VHS when I was a kid. Not only did the movie scare me, which was, of course, true of most of the horror movies I saw back then (I might have loved them even then, but I was a wimp. lol), but it was one of the scariest! Still is! I have seen, enjoyed, and been terrified by A Nightmare on Elm Street; Friday the 13th; Scream; I Know What You Did Last Summer; Black Christmas; and many other classic slasher movies, but you will never convince me that the idea of teenagers staying in an abandoned house in the woods, only to find themselves being stalked by a gang of deranged cannibals, including a chainsaw-wielding maniac is anything less than nightmarish!! Tobe Hooper was a truly a master of the macabre who created a real masterpiece with this fright-fest!
