If you are new to philosophy this book will be an excellent introduction. It is not a complete review of all philosophers and philosophies, but an outline of some of the more well known. It serves as a starting point for a more extensive study. While some may question aspects of Durant's work surely no one can deny his true enthusiasm and love of his subject. I came across this book when I was just beginning an interest in philosophy and dog-eared and worn as it is now it is still a favorite of mine. I often re-read it when I find my own enthusiasm in philosophy is flagging. Come to think of it, I probably need a less worn copy of my own!
