This was a very interesting book. I had heard and read things about the Donner Party, but never anything that really detailed the trip, especially from the perspective of a survivor. Author Brown is the decedent of a man who was part of the rescue party and is very thorough in detailing the trip, what went wrong and information about the survivors. His facts about hypothermia and starvation were eye-opening and made the Donner Party disaster much more relevant and understandable. I was amazed to find out that overall the women on the trip were the largest portion of the survivors. Just goes to show you that women are a hardy stock. I look forward to reading Mr. Brown's other historical books.
