2017 Reprint of 1940 Edition. The Imitation of Christ is perhaps the most widely read Christian devotional work, second only to the bible, and is regarded as a devotional and religious classic. Its popularity was immediate, and it was printed 745 times before 1650. Apart from the Bible, few books have been translated into more languages than the Imitation of Christ . The text is divided into four books, which provide detailed spiritual instructions: "Helpful Counsels of the Spiritual Life", "Directives for the Interior Life", "On Interior Consolation" and "On the Blessed Sacrament". The approach taken is characterized by emphasis on the interior life and withdrawal from the world, as opposed to an active imitation of Christ by other friars. The work book places a high level of emphasis on the devotion to the Eucharist as key element of spiritual life.

Good reading
I would recommend this book to all Catholics, as it tells of the way we should be living while awaiting the second coming of Christ. I read a little from it each night as I go to bed.

No Words For This Book!!
This book is one of a kind, second ONLY to the bible. It's very profound and reaches your innermost being. I had to be at the right time in my life to appreciate and totally enjoy this book. In short, anyone who doesn't come in contact with this book has lost a great deal. Also, on this book site, it's cheap and plentiful!!

awesome insight
In the mid 1400's when this book was written, everyone in Christendom was Roman Catholic. Consider that this book was instrumental in John Newton's and John Wesley's conversions. We can sift out the legalistic toned doctrine since we are informed. Overall Kempis has awesome insight to the man Jesus and our walk as a pilgrim and follower of Jesus.
