"In the following pages an attempt has been made to examine anew in the light of God's Word some of the profoundest questions which can engage the human mind. Others have grappled with these mighty problems in days gone by and from their labors we are the gainers. While making no claim for originality the writer, nevertheless, has endeavored to examine and deal with his subject from an entirely independent viewpoint. We have studied diligently the writings of such men as Augustine and Acquinas, Calvin and Melancthon, Jonathan Edwards and Ralph Erskine, Andrew Fuller and Robert Haldane.* And sad it is to think that these eminent and honored names are almost entirely unknown to the present generation. Though, of course, we do not endorse all their conclusions, yet we gladly acknowledge our deep indebtedness to their works. We have purposely refrained from quoting freely from these deeply taught theologians, because we desired that the faith of our readers should stand not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. For this reason we have quoted freely from the Scriptures and have sought to furnish proof texts for every statement we have advanced." Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death, ' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

My friend and I both ordered this book. His is 2018 printing and tiny type and difficult to read with "old" English like KJV and paragraphs are smashed together and hard to find same sentence when studying together. Mine from different seller was 2008 with larger type and NKJV like in comparison and easy to read. Now he has to buy another book.

The best book on this subject
My husband has loved this book for over 30 years and given many copies away. I was so happy I could get him an early edition, old hardcover that we will keep forever. It has brought us much comfort and increased our faith and helped us share God's sovereignty with others.

The character of God and of mankind
Do you want to know more about the character of God and of mankind? You will find it here. The only book I've found with a clearer picture is the Bible itself, which is, by the way, quoted over and over in Brother Pink's book. Do you want to obey God, but are just not always sure how to do this? This book can show you the way. Do you have questions in your mind about God that have never been answered? Then by all means read this book! Read it with an open mind and an open heart to the things of God. Read it prayerfully, carefully and slowly. It will bless your soul and bring rejoicing to your lips!
