The Imitation of Christ by Thomas Kempis is a Christian devotional book of profound importance. Written in Latin ca.1418-1427. It is a handbook for spiritual life arising from the Devotio Moderna movement, of which Kempis was a member. The Imitation is perhaps the most widely read devotional work next to the Bible, and is regarded as a devotional and religious classic. Other than the bible, no book has been translated into more languages than the Imitation of Christ. The text is divided into four books, which provide detailed spiritual instructions: "Helpful Counsels of the Spiritual Life", "Directives for the Interior Life", "On Interior Consolation" and "On the Blessed Sacrament". The approach taken in the Imitation is characterized by its emphasis on the interior life and withdrawal from the world, as opposed to an active imitation of Christ by other friars. Good reading
I would recommend this book to all Catholics, as it tells of the way we should be living while awaiting the second coming of Christ. I read a little from it each night as I go to bed.

No Words For This Book!!
This book is one of a kind, second ONLY to the bible. It's very profound and reaches your innermost being. I had to be at the right time in my life to appreciate and totally enjoy this book. In short, anyone who doesn't come in contact with this book has lost a great deal. Also, on this book site, it's cheap and plentiful!!

awesome insight
In the mid 1400's when this book was written, everyone in Christendom was Roman Catholic. Consider that this book was instrumental in John Newton's and John Wesley's conversions. We can sift out the legalistic toned doctrine since we are informed. Overall Kempis has awesome insight to the man Jesus and our walk as a pilgrim and follower of Jesus.
