a short novel written by a Frenchman in the early 20th century, Aphrodite was considered an erotic book although it is so tame now that it almost quaint. It is a story of a prostitute in ancient Egypt who considers herself the equal of the goddesss, Aphrodite. In frank language it tells of her many affairs with both sexes and the power she had to make a famous architect and lover of the queen commit three crimes before she would let him in her bed. The ending has a twist, but you have to read it for yourself. Would I recommend to a friend? Only if I knew the person's tastes and/or prejudices. Although I have recent books that are more graphic, I would not recommend this book to anyone under 21 (to use an arbitrary age).
