Smart Woman...
Howard never dummies down her heroines. However, Caroline Evans is of exceptional intelligence. A story of the military, sabotage, treason. I loved Joe's story as much as I did Wolf's. This is a single read(short) story. Filled to the covers with intrigue and suspicion. I always love a story where the Hero doubts and has suspicions as they make him human and believable. While romantic, there is none of the granduer of "larger than life" proportions that take over heros in stories. Yes, Joe is "larger than life" in his feats, but he is beset with emotion and suspicion and does his job anyway even in the face of falling for the person he suspects. She is a tigress and though smart, she takes risks that are perilious. His story near the end is heartwrenching and one understands his control finally and what drives it. All the Mackenzie stories are great and you should pick them up and read them in order to fully pull into place the characters you will find within. Wolf first, then Joe, then Zane and finally Chance. Recommended reading all the books.
