I was turned on to Breece's work after reading Larry Brown's novella "96 Days," in which he mentions writers being driven to suicide. I dare say that had Breece survived and steadily developed his writing over these years to an even greater level of excellence, and, of course, tried his hand at writing novels, he would easily stand alongside the likes of Cormac McCarthy.
