This book purports to be written by Daphne du Maurier - but it came out in the year of her death (1989) and by then, sadly, she had not been in a very good way for some years. In the foreword, Daphne writes that Piers Dudgeon was 'more than an editor' and that is certainly the case. I think it would probably be more accurate to say that the book was compiled by Piers from words written or spoken by Daphne, mostly years before. There is some new material which apparently came from old interview tapes or conversations. Although the premise of the book is disingenuous, it's nicely produced and there are some good photographs. If you're interested in Cornwall and Daphne du Maurier then it's worth getting (especially at a reasonable price) but if you want something more authentic then try Daphne's 1967 book 'Vanishing Cornwall' (there's a later 1980s edition with colour photographs) or her 1977 autobiography 'Myself when Young '.
