This book came highly recommended, by John Cleese, who praised it greatly. By the time I got one-quarter through I was disappointed. There's really *nothing* between the covers of the book that is in any meaningful way new or insightful, at least not to anyone who paid any attention whatsoever in history and lit classes in school. The book's a freshman-level survey of Western Civilization's philosophical, political, and cultural underpinnings and development over time. Basic stuff.
