This is the last book that Rosemary Sutcliff wrote, and one of my favorites. The story is set in the time of the sagas and takes place among the isles of Scotland, Wales, Dublin and Caithness. Bjarni, the hero of the story, grows to manhood while taking sword service with Onund Treefoot and Thorstein the Red. During the story you are introduced to many characters of the sagas, including Aud the deep minded.
This is a wonderful story and brings this part of history vividly to life.
