Laurie Graham's The Importance of Being Kennedy didn't just tell the story of America's "royalty", it put the family and the exploits of its members into the context of the times. Bookended by the two World Wars and narrated by a fictional Kennedy nursemaid, Nora Brennan, Graham's story gives the reader a rich sense of the values and priorities that produced the Kennedy aura. Each character - Kennedy or non-Kennedy - is vividly drawn and knowable, and the book is un-put-downable. Highly recommended!
