Michel Faber's debut novel was shortlisted for the 2000 Whitbread First Novel Award and received astounding critical acclaim and a cult following. An imaginative, gripping work in a genre of its own, Under the Skin centres around Isserley, a female driver who picks up male hitchhikers with big muscles. A horrifying, heart-thumping ride through dangerous moral territory, Under the Skin is by turns funny, macabre and deeply affecting. "A fascinating book.... Very interesting premise the woman as hunter in a real sense, I have read many books where the man is hunting a women sizing up her physical attributes etc reading it from a female perspective is unusual and uncomfortable I dont want to give to much away but I flew through it and enjoyed it immensely.

creepy
This book gave me the willies. It also gave me nightmares. No small feat, considering that I rarely even remember my dreams. The story unfolds very, (but not too) slowly, and subtly. Eventually, there is a horrifying revelation about who, and what, exactly the main character is, and what, exactly she does for a living. The author tells a good, scary story without the cheap tricks that horror writers like to use to scare their audiences.
I recommend it. I give it three stars because the writing style can be a little rough around the edges.
