Governor William Bradford
William Bradford (1590-1657) was an English Separatist originally from the West Riding of Yorkshire. He moved to Holland to escape persecution from King James I and then emigrated to the Plymouth Colony on the Mayflower in 1620. He was elected to the office of governor in 1621, and he continued to serve in that position intermittently for more than thirty years.
