Walter H. Pehle was born in 1941, studied in Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf, and holds a doctorate in history. From 1977 to 2011 he was an acquiring editor for history at the German publisher S. Fischer Verlag. His own publications include, as volume editor, the anthology November 1938: From "Reichskristallnacht" to Genocide (Berg, 1991) and, together with Wolfgang Benz, Encyclopedia of German Resistance to the Nazi Movement (Continuum, 1997).
