S S Van Dine

S. S. Van Dine (1888-1939) is the pseudonym used by the American art critic Willard Huntington Wright when he wrote detective novels. Dine created his fictional detective Philo Vance in the 1920s and went on to write twelve novels in the series, and through these books he became one of the bestselling authors in the United States. Before WWI he was active in the avant-garde art scene and was a writer for the Los Angeles Times.
