Rodolfo Usigli (1905-79) is considered by many to be Mexico's foremost twentieth-century dramatist. Usigli, who was also a poet, novelist, and essayist of distinction, created in his plays a probing and far-reaching interpretive vision of Mexican history, institutions, and cultural values. His widely anthologized El gesticulador (The Impostor) and his Corona de sombra (Crown of Shadows) are regarded as classics in both Mexican and Latin American drama.
