Richard Platt has been writing for children and adults since 1983, completing more than 100 mostly non-fiction titles that have been sold in 40 countries. Richard's children's books have won a Smarties prize and a Blue Peter award; three have reached the Royal Society Science Prize shortlist. Richard's work is not confined to non-fiction: a review by the Historical Association described his teen novel Double Crossing as "a gripping adventure ... engrossing and realistic". Nor is he purely a children's author: The History Press recently published his Smuggling in the British Isles and he has penned restaurant reviews, TV scripts and museum interpretation. He also wrote the text for A Sailor's Life For Me , an interactive website that picked up a Bronze Muse award from the American Association of Museums. Richard has appeared widely on TV and radio, talking about his children's writing, or drawing on his expert knowledge of maritime topics such as smuggling and piracy. See less
