Penny Lernoux
Penny Lernoux, who died in 1989, was an award-winning journalist whose writings chronicled the hopes and struggles of the post-Vatican II church. In addition to her many articles in The National Catholic Reporter, The Nation, and Sojourners, she wrote several books including the landmark work on the church in Latin America, Cry of the People, as well as People of God, an account of the struggle between conservative and progressive forces in the Catholic Church.
