Maria Banerjee
Maria Nemcová Banerjee was born in Prague, where she spent her childhood. Her family fled from Czechoslovakia and lived in France for three years before emigrating to Canada. Maria Banerjee holds a Ph.D. in Slavic languages and literature from Harvard University. Maria Nemcová Banerjee was born in Prague, where she spent her childhood. Her family fled from Czechoslovakia and lived in France for three years before emigrating to Canada. Maria Banerjee holds a Ph.D. in Slavic languages and literature from Harvard University. A professor of Russian and comparative literature at Smith College, she lives in Northampton with her husband, the poet Ron D.K. Banerjee. Her published works include Terminal Paradox: The Novels of Milan Kundera and The Lime Tree in Prague, as well as numerous articles on Russian literature and philosophy and translations of Russian and Czech poetry in collaboration with her husband.
