Dr Giles was appointed to the Media and Communications Department in June 2005 and has held positions during this time as Postgraduate Coursework Coordinator, Degree Director of Media Practice, Publishing and Health Communication and Associate Dean for Postgraduate Coursework. She was Chair of Department throughout 2014 and 2015. A well-known writer and editor, since graduating in English from Oxford University, she has worked in publishing and journalism, and has authored and edited books, book chapters, and academic journal articles in addition to features for magazines and newspapers. Fiona has appeared in two feature documentaries and a short film on breastfeeding, and has established an international reputation for her work on breast-feeding, feminism and embodiment. She is also building a profile for her research in literary journalism, and was awarded the 2015 prize for Best Article in Literary Journalism, by the International Association for Literary Journalism Studies.
