Augustus Mayhew is a cultural columnist and architectural historian whose essays and photographs appear on the New York Social Diary. As a member of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County's board of governors, he served as the organization's chairman of archives and collections for many years. Augustus Mayhew is a cultural columnist and architectural historian whose essays and photographs appear on the New York Social Diary. As a member of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County's board of governors, he served as the organization's chairman of archives and collections for many years. Along with appointments to local, regional and state historic preservation organizations, Mayhew was the recipient of the AIA-Palm Beach Chapter's Historic Preservation Award. He has been a guest lecturer at The Society of the Four Arts, The Fellowship of Christians and Jews, Historical Society of Palm Beach County, Colonial Dames, and the Sea Island-Coastal Georgia Historical Society. Born in Cuba, he grew up in Delray Beach and received a bachelor's degree in English Literature and History from Florida State University, having also studied at the International Study Center in Florence, Italy. The author's previous collection of essays titled Lost in Wonderland-Reflections on Palm Beach was published in 2012. See less
