I have been a lay-ordained student of Zen Buddhism for 31 years. That's 31 years of dharma talks and retreats and reading and training. Somehow this book was like the gift of "Beginner's Mind" after all this time. To me, Katagiri Roshi speaks such a fresh language from such unusual angles, that parts of his talks were jumping off the page at me. I would have to put the book down and rest, sometimes even in tears from the poignancy of the insight he describes. My teacher also said she finds the freshness of language and expression very helpful after a lifetime in one particular school. I gave away my copy and must get another one.
