That the words "Grief" and "Parade" share space in the title of this memoir could not be more fitting. No other book has *literally* made me laugh and cry (often at the same time) like this one.
The first memoir (and second book) by Alexandra Silber, White Hot Grief Parade pulled me in from the start and moved with such a constant pulse that it was nearly impossible to put down.
Alexandra (whom we soon learn goes by "Al") shares the story of losing her father to cancer at a young age -- and of friendship, family, love, loss and coming of age -- with a palpable tenderness possessed, I think, only by those who have been through one of life's most rigorous painful experiences and, through it, discovered life's equally rigorous beauty.
Read this book. Please read it. I am so glad I did.
