Persist, however, and you'll see what the fuss is about: This recording offers two vocalists at the top of their powers, and the solo sections of the Gloria have rarely sizzled as they do here. Even better are the two solo cantatas: Argentine countertenor Diego Fasolis is deliberate and sensuous in the Nisi dominus, RV 608, and soprano Julia Lezhneva shines in the little-performed Nulla in mundo pax sincera, RV 630, which is perhaps little performed because of its sheer difficulty.
