Professor Wheatstone, F.R.S.--Wills, Esq., Office of " All the Year Bound." Bev. J. H. Wilson, author of " Our Moral Wastes, ' &c. The London Daily and Weekly Press displayed a most enlightened zeal in investigating the merits of the new system, and devoted a liberal portion of space to editorial articles and correspondence on the subject. Each of the articles, from which extracts are given below, was based on a separate practical demonstration given before the conductors of the various journals. To reprint the whole of the notices which appeared in the London newspapers would fill a volume of considerable size. The following passages show the general spirit of the criticisms: From the " Patriot, '1' August 11. Of the completeness and value of the invention we have ourselves had proof. Mr Bell, in our presence wrote from dictation a number of Hindustani, Welsh, and German words, and these his Son, who had been absent from the room, and certainly knew nothing of two of these languages, read off with perfect accuracy of intonation and pronunciation. Every conceivable sound can be symbolized by Mr Bell; and he has already succeeded in writing sentences in the most difficult modern languages, so that they could be read with perfect correctness by his Sons. Mr Reid, Professor of Hindustani and Persian, says: --'A selected some of the most difficult words I could think of in pure Hindee, Urdu, and Persian, consisting of gutturals, ...
