Seller's Description:
Between Thomas Forsey, Plaintiff, and Waddel Cunningham, Defendant. iv, 68pp. 4to, handsomely rebound in modern 1/2 mottled calf, leather label; (light foxing, ex-lib, light dampstain to some margins). N.Y. : John Holt, 1764. Waddel Cunningham was found guilty and fined 1500 pounds. His appeal to his Majesty's Council, Judges of the Court of Appeals was not taken up. In the preface, the anonymous editor, protests the appeal attempt by expressing that Americans should be tried by their peers and not by representatives of the British crown. This reflects the growing public opinion against the rule of the British crown and their officials in the American Colonies. The revolutionary response by the American Colonists continued with the passage of the Stamp Act the following year. Evans 41438. Bristol B2464.
