Very Good in Very Good jacket. Signed by Author(s)although not signed by the author who had died 8 years prior to the publication of this edition it is inscribed on 3 pages by his widow. the jacket is shelf rubbed and there are a few small tears. the rear is also lightly marked. the front end page is inscribed thus " for Zelda Friedlander with every good wish for Christmas and the new year from Jessica Brett Young, mount nelson hotel cape town December 1963. PTO for some early reviews. on the verso of this page mrs young has handwritten 2 reviews, one from the Manchester guardian and one from the new statesman. on the half title page mrs young has continued her notes thus " in the 1914-18 war when francis had returned invalided to tidworth camp on Salisbury plain, after serving under general smuts in the german east African campaign, he and William Armstrong (then director of the Liverpool repertory theatre) made a dramatized version of this book. it was called 'the furnace' and was produced at the playhouse, Liverpool eleven years later (1928) with Diana Wynyard and Robert donat in the cast, both then unknown. I have told you all this, knowing that you like facts! JBY". the book also has a small stamp mark from a previous owner. the binding is excellent. there is a little light foxing.
