Guthrie, Jr., the son of a relatively poor schoolmaster who tells of his wanderings as a young man during the Depression, trying to find work in Mexico, California, New York, and Pennsylvania. He became a newspaperman, and later a writer who won a Pulitzer Prize for the book "Big Sky." The book ends with a moving description of a typical April day in Montana-Mr. Guthrie is alone on his land, observing Nature's bounty and reflecting on the meaning of his life.
