Having spent almost 40 years in manufacturing, I was able to witness the denigration of "practical" people and their replacement with men of "education". The practical men had intuitive skills and a love of machinery, manufacturing, and production. Admittedly they were not the best at paperwork. The educated men were not interested at all in machinery, manufacturing, and production. They were most interested in documentation, record keeping, and analysis. The inefficiencies of the practical men were their undoing. The inability of a great new management class to create with passion was the undoing of the managers. This book clearly reveals all that and Americas eventual decline in all manufacturing to other countries who, for a while at least, have a better system.
