His Wanderer Fantasy is clean, Olympian in the Beethovenian polyphony of the last "movement," and a trifle restrained. His Berg sonata is Viennese, tuneful, a bit smoky, oriented toward the work's late Romantic predecessors more than to the innovations to come.
