From Tennis for Two for the Oscilloscope all the way up to modern day consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One Dr. Wardyga does an excellent job of sharing the history of gaming in an exciting and informative way. In an age where so much emphasis is on modern day gaming its refreshing to see such extensive research on the origin and survival of video games in the 20th century. As someone who loves gaming but was never particularly into technical specs of older consoles it blew my mind just how important some of this information was to each era of videogames. Dr. Wardyga paints a picture of just how successful these consoles were when they came out and also the technical specifications for them in an informative way that makes me want to go play these systems. If you love classic video games and want to learn a lot more about how we got here with new consoles than I definitely would recommend this textbook.

Would recommend this to anyone in a heartbeat
Dr Wardyga's thorough research and comprehensive attention to detail make his work on "The Video Games Textbook" a triumph. In the introduction, he says his goal for the textbook was "to facilitate learning the history, business, and technology of video games with visually stimulating, comprehensive, and chronological chapters that are relevant and easy to understand for a variety of readers", and without a shadow of a doubt, he has followed through. Every chapter holds a tremendous amount of information without leaving the reader feeling overwhelmed, accompanied by relevant trivia and quizzes to enhance their understanding even further.
The text covers every base for anyone who holds any interest in video gaming, whether it be the technology behind video games, details on consoles, or its effect on society. And while the book's contents have obvious educational benefits, it can be read and enjoyed by those outside an academic environment. Dr. Wardyga's knowledge of the gaming universe is vast, and his book makes that abundantly clear. I have and will continue to recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic!
