A heart-stopping story of a murderous conspiracy at the heart of the most powerful American legal system - the Supreme Court - and one man's desperate fight for justice. Rufus Harms, to the casual onlooker, is a loser and a nobody. He has been in prison for 25 years for the brutal killing of a young girl. But a letter, smuggled to him by his brother, reveals the thread of a massive miscarriage of justice which threatens to unravel the fabric of the highest legal establishment in the country - the Supreme Court - and reveal the horror of corruption and murderous self interest at its core. One man, down-at-heel lawyer John Fiske, as spiky as he is sharply intelligent, is determined to uncover the truth when his brother, a high-flying Supreme Court clerk, is brutally and seemingly randomly murdered. It is when Harms escapes from prison and John Fiske makes a chilling connection that they realise the enemy is buried deep within the American system of Justice and is completely ruthless when protecting the truth...

This one seemed to start out slowly for me, but it kept drawing me in until I was really absorbed by the story and the different twists. Definitely ended up enjoying it! Obviously a page-turner!

Truth is not so simple!
I have loved all of Baldacci's work since I first read The Christmas Train years ago. His ability to skillfully sustain and then intertwine multiple plots is incredible. If you like Baldacci's typcial thriller type mysteries and you find yourself cheering for the underdog, you are sure to find this to be a great read.

Another Baldacci winner
Of the several Baldacci novels I have read so far this one really stands out for me as the best of the lot. Of course, I have yet to read the rest - one at a time - until I have reached that goal !!
